A further revised pay offer was made by employers to the Teachers' Side of the Scottish Negotiating Committee for Teachers (SNCT): in some respects the offer was worse, with three months of back-dating being removed and the headline increase being reduced from 1.22% to 1% for the first 9 months of the pay year, and in one key way it was improved, with the offer being enhanced to 2% for the final three months of the pay year.
This offer is wholly inadequate in the context of increased cost of living pressures. It represents a further significant real-terms pay cut to teachers’ pay, compounding a decade of erosion in the value of teachers’ salaries at a time when more and more is being asked of teachers.
Urgent intervention and action by the Scottish Government is required to ensure the continued support of teachers in securing plans for education recovery.
Please email your MSP to urge them to show support for teachers by raising this issue directly with the Cabinet Secretary, Shirley-Anne Somerville, asking her to take such steps as are necessary to insist that employers come back to the negotiating table urgently with an improved offer to deliver real progress towards pay restoration for teachers.
