Schools cannot absorb more cuts - find out how you can make teachers count

Education funding is stuck in the past: our schools cannot absorb more cuts and teachers and pupils cannot thrive in underfunded schools

Years of rising costs and unfunded pay awards are forcing schools into increasingly impossible decisions about staffing, resources and support for pupils

Our education system is not a budget to be balanced: it is the foundation of our society. In order to Fix Our Future, the government must Fund Education - the two go hand in hand. We have to fund fairness and we have to fund hope.

This is a collective demand for change and a call to fix the skyrocketing teacher workloads and staff shortages that are daily realities in schools up and down the country.

That is why we are asking you to contact your MP to demand they urgently act to secure:

  • significant new investment in all parts of the UK for all needs identified in relation to SEND (staffing, training and facilities);

  • urgent national action to tackle excessive workload and hours;

  • withdrawal of any threat to the contractual provisions on working hours (1,265 hours) within teachers’ terms and conditions;

  • the introduction in all state-funded schools of maternity provision granting 52 weeks of full pay with the funding from government to support it;

  • fully funded, real-terms, above-inflation pay increases which restore the pay lost over 15 years;

  • national pay and conditions for any person working in a state-funded school, including Trust Central Teams;

  • accountability for academy trusts and effective, swift, mechanisms for intervention when trusts fail to manage public money effectively; and

  • regulation of supply teacher agencies to ensure fair pay for supply teachers and lower costs to schools.
