NASUWT has a longstanding campaign to secure the removal of deadly asbestos from schools and colleges.
Currently, the regulations allow for indefinite management in situ, leading to staff and pupils being exposed to asbestos and teacher deaths due to asbestos exposure continue to rise.
NASUWT is calling for the recommendations of the previous Work and Pensions Select Committee to be implemented, namely to introduce a 40-year deadline for the removal of asbestos from public buildings and the creation of a central register for all asbestos.
These measures will protect people from asbestos in schools and finally bring to an end the scourge of asbestos in schools.
